Seasonal Swap Ideas

We pulled together a list of decor ideas you can start with that can maximize your seasonal shift. You don’t have to do all of these, but picking a few to do together in each room you want to refresh will help the room still feel designed and not just like token seasonal decor. We’ve thrown out some guidelines to help you “think fall” as well.

    • Throw Pillows – Change out a few for an overall shift towards autumn color, motifs, and texture
    • Throw Blankets – Swap these out for a heavier weight and cozier texture and drape them over your sofa arm
    • Candles – Think appropriate scents and colors, lidded candles and taper candle decor alike
    • Florals/Greenery – Switch your vases and stems to branchier picks, more muted greens, and deeper color varieties
    • Wreaths – Shift to fall colors or harvest textures like wheat, berries, or dried florals and leaves
    • Front Door Mat – Possibly the easiest place to put a fall pattern, color, or greeting
    • Soap – Scents help a vibe! so change your candles, diffuser, or even just your febreze scent
    • Art – Its always fun to have a few non-sacred pieces that change seasonally, like shifting into an autumn landscape, or an abstract in muted tones
    • Table Runner- Hands down the easiest thing to change in your dining room for a seasonal feel
    • Holiday Decor- Take it or leave it, seasonal motifs and graphics are forefront in retail in abundance! We suggest finding a few classic items like pumpkins & gourds, or oak & maple leaves to add in directly or in a pattern/motif, while still keeping an editing eye.

Swap Suggestions

Let’s see how we can make this space fall-ready while still maintaining the aesthetic. First, we kept the blue/teal tone consistent because it relates to the kitchen, but grabbed a more fall motif. Then we took the coral and swapped it with a more muted orange & camel mix, while keeping the existing black pillow in the mix and adding fall-leaning black accents. We swapped the word art for a moody abstract to bring the color up vertically in the room. Then we topped of the palette with a few pillows that have multiple tones which allowed us to layer in a purple and burgundy note. The fall stems and branches really shift the vibe from fresh summer to a cozy autumn feel.

While its always good to concentrate your styling in the space you live in the most (often the living room!), don’t forget that you are probably almost as often in your kitchen. It’s especially important to carry those themes over into spaces that are connected and open for consistency. So, what about this kitchen? We shifted the tones slightly to a more golden glow in here to capitalize off of the brass pendants, but kept the key colors consistent. We added a bit more pumpkin pieces, but made sure not to put them everywhere.
